More common than commonly believed
According to studies, approximately 75% of all employees steal at least once in their careers, and half engage in repeat theft.
Theft refers to taking the property of others, either by force or without their knowledge. Examples can range from petty office theft to stealing important information:
- Theft of materials;
- Theft of information; and
- Theft/misappropriation of funds.
A few clues:
- An employee always coming in or leaving very early or very late, or frequently working on weekends.
- An employee rarely taking a vacation.
- A very friendly and flourishing relationship developing between an employee and a supplier or customer.
- An employee frequently leaving his or her work location.
- An employee displaying a lifestyle that far exceeds his or her salary, without having won the lottery.
